From the Principal...

We are overwhelmed with sentiments as we reflect on this past school-year! The growth-opportunities and celebrations were all embraced Eagle style. Thank you for your continued partnership. For our students, staff, and families leaving the Forest Ridge community –embarking on a new journey we bid you farewell and wish you the very best in your undertaking. For our members who are returning in August, we look forward to hearing about all of your summer escapades. Send us a post card as you embrace all that Summer has to offer! We wish everyone a great summer filled with laughter, time, and togetherness.

At this time of year parents begin to ask questions regarding student, as well as teacher assignments for the approaching school year. Staffing shifts are just starting to occur as members leave the nest and others are born. It is with bittersweet sentiments that we announce the “flight” of several dear staff members:

  • Diana Nam, 5th grade teacher will be relocating.
  • Alyson Foreman, 4th grade instructional team leader will be relocating.
  • Emily Warnock, 4th grade teacher will be on leave.
  • Jennifer Kim, ESOL teacher is reassigned to Deep Run Elementary & Stevens Forest Elementary
  • Ashley Scruggs, 1st grade teacher will be on leave.
  • Catina Ramis, Strings Teacher is reassigned to another school.
  • Tanya Frizzelle, special education paraeducator, is reassigned to Wilde Lake Middle School
  • Elizabeth Morris, Reading Support Teacher, is reassigned.
  • Jason Ortega, Assistant Principal, is reassigned to Worthington Elementary

We salute our staff. Their presence and their offerings will be missed. We wish them well on their journey. Please take a moment to extend your well-wishes to them.

As always, if you have additional questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to call or stop by.

Sincerely,

Genée A. Varlack, Ed.D

PTA News...

From the President
Well it's here my friends... Summer has begun and let the fun commence! As I've said before I have a love/hate relationship with summer, but this one is bittersweet. Next school year I will have three kids at FRES and one at Patuxent Valley...That's right...They will ALL be in school! I wanted to write one last entry and say how much I've enjoyed being on the PTA these last 7 years. We have instituted a lot of programs and fun family events as well as seen some we wouldn't do again. I've enjoyed getting to know so many of the kids through these events, and yes... Parents too. I have made lifelong friendships from the PTA and am thankful that my kids go to a school full of such caring parents and especially teachers. I look forward to helping with a few of my favorite events, but I am really looking forward to being able to just be a guest at some of the events as well. So I leave the new board with well wishes and the best of luck. Thank you FRES for allowing me to be a part of the fun we know as the PTA.
Warmly,
Manda Fields

Labels for Education (LFE) Program Ending – Thank You
Thanks to your help this spring, we have collected just enough LFE points to earn one more $100 LFE Visa Gift card! The FRES Related Arts team/P.E. dept. will use it toward the purchase of some new items for recess play this fall. Thank you, everyone! Also, thank you to several parents who helped with gluing and mailing the “bonus” sheets throughout the year.

Box Tops – Thank You – Please keep clipping this summer!
Thank you so much for your participation all year, and please keep clipping! FRES received a check for $290 in May, in addition to the check for $1,128 received in December 2015. Over the past few months, FRES has earned more than $800 (so far) toward a December 2016 check! This summer: If every student saved just 20 Box Tops, we’d have 14,000 Box Tops this fall, and our school could earn an additional $1,400. The math shows that every Box Top counts at 10 cents each! Please ask family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to clip them http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products. If they buy Cheerios, they have Box Tops. Have a great summer!

June Contest Winners
Congratulations to LFE contest winner Vincent Nguyen (2-Robinson) who has received a gift card to Five Below, and to Box Tops contest winner Nathan Hefty (5-Azzarello) who has received a gift card to Sweet Frog. A random drawing was held with one entry per each LFE and/or Box Top submitted. Please contact Lauren Giles at psulauren@yahoo.com with any questions. Thank you!
