From the President

Hello Parents,
WHEW!!! What a week! It started with a great turn out of families at Skate Night Friday night and then Holiday Bazaar on Saturday. Thank you to all who came out. Then THIS week? Dr. Altwerger heard concerns and questions from several parents at our monthly PTA meeting and Holiday Shoppe began and ended. MANY MANY thanks to all of the parents that gave of their time to help the children shop this year. We were blessed to have a great volunteer turnout. And we needed it to help the GOBS of children that shopped, especially Tuesday and Wednesday, when classes were doubled up. This year we had an evening shop that also seemed well attended.

RECIPES, RECIPES, RECIPES…. PLEASE get those recipes in to school. We can’t have a cookbook without recipes. I KNOW there are lots of cooks, bakers and “just throw something together” types in our community. I’ve seen the delicious dishes that come in for Staff Appreciation meals. Please send in your favorite. It can be one that has been passed down through your family or a family favorite from a cookbook you use a lot. It does not have to be an original recipe that you created. The cookbook is a GREAT way to celebrate the diversity of FRES! Please be a part of it.

Dad’s Club is continuing to sell tickets for the Lady Terps basketball game. Get those ticket orders in! The deadline to order is December 21 and the cost of each ticket is $5. Game will be held on Feb. 25 at 12:00pm.

Have a GREAT weekend! Allow yourself time to relax.

Kindergarteners Invited to Gingerbread Making Night! Mark Your Calendars and Check out the Supply List!
FRES PTA has teamed up with the Kindergarten teachers for the annual Kindergarten Gingerbread House Making event Tuesday, Dec. 19. All Kindergarten students are invited to attend. We do need help with supplies to make the event a success! We are asking each participating kindergarten student to bring in one container of vanilla frosting (creamy not whipped), labeled with their name and teacher, OR send $1.50 to school in a Ziploc bag, labeled with their name and teacher, and we will purchase the frosting for you. We also need each participating student to sign up and bring in one additional item from the gingerbread house decorating supply list: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4baca922a7fb6-kindergarten. There are still plenty of slots remaining! Please bring all items to school by Wednesday, Dec. 13. This event is ONLY open to kindergarteners and their parents/guardians. Sorry, but we cannot accommodate older and younger siblings.

Keep Those Cookbook Recipes Coming! Deadline Extended Until Friday, Dec. 22
We still need recipes for the FRES 25th Anniversary cookbook! Each cookbook will honor our rich diversity of cultures and be professionally printed and bound in an easy to read format. We would like each FRES family to submit at least one of their favorite original recipes from the following categories: Appetizers & Beverages, Soup & Salads, Vegetable & Side Dishes, Main Dishes, Breads & Rolls, Desserts, Cookies & Candy and This & That. Please send in all recipes by Friday, Dec. 22. You can submit recipes by completing the recipe collection sheet (www.frespta.org/resources/forms ) and sending it to school with your child. Or, you can email your recipe to fundraising@frespta.org. Be sure to include your name, child’s name, teacher and grade.

Submit Your Photos for the 2017-18 FRES Yearbook
The Yearbook Committee is looking for pictures to include in this year's yearbook of all the wonderful activities and events the FRES students and families enjoy throughout the year. (Sorry, we are only accepting electronically transferred images, no hard copy prints.) Submitting a picture is quick and easy. Just go the FRES PTA website, www.frespta.org, and click on the UPLOAD NOW option on the home page, and upload your picture. Pictures will only be viewed by authorized yearbook committee personnel.
